The Firefly

In the fires that burned throughout America, a lone being existed with the capabilities to command these flames. He was roughly seven feet tall, and glowed a harsh yellow from the inside, which was clearly visible through his eyes and mouth when he opened them. A dark orange robe covered his body, hiding him completely. Stalking through the streets of Manhatten, the Shaman with the ability to create and bend flames to his will was hungry. Creating a heat haze below him, the heat billowed through his claok, raising him from the ground. As he 'levitated' over the city, he looked for his prey. Spotting a large cluster of squirrel-like hybrids, he descended upon them, twin jets of fire expelling from his hands.

Toasting and eating the creatures, he once more slipped into the shadows, causing his glowing to dim down and hid once more. Stalking through the streets, he walked slowly, contently. as he leisurely made his way back home.

Miles and miles away from her home; Amayah needed a change… something new. She was now in America; she often went there when her home got too tiring. Looking around the area she laid down and thought of how peacefully quiet it was here. She heard a sudden noise; what the hell was that? She scanned thee area for any signs of enemies and couldn’t see any immediate danger. Standing up, Amayah walked cautiously in the direction of the sound.

Pulling off his cloak, The Firefly revealed an insectoid body with red lines running through it, and a set of massive gossamar wings on his back, and a glowing pod connected to his sternum. His glow originated from that pod. Spreading his wings wide, his entire body was engulfed in fire. Shooting into the air at intense speeds, his glow penetrated the darkness of this world like a sun. Letting the fire and his own light fade, he essentially disappeared. Zooming across the sky, he landed on top of a sky scraper. Ah, he was home.

Amayah looked up into the sky; it looked as though the sun had come out from behind the clouds. The sun finally! Suddenly remembering that the permanent clouds would no way reveal the sun ever… she focused her eyes. It was some sort of odd avian creature. A glowing avian, what in the hell… since when do avians glow, was it some sort of firefly or something?

Taking off into a run, she continued eyeing the sky, as the glowing thing glided forward; its course seemed to be set to a nearby sky scraper. She stopped suddenly as the creature’s light faded… it almost seemed to have disappeared from the sky. Until she noticed it had only put out its light. Smart move, she thought to herself… but not smart enough for me. Amayah began to walk forward carefully to the large building.

Melting a hole through the concrete with a jet of blue fire, The Firefly calmly kicked the circle of concrete in before disappearing into the darkness of the building.

Hearing a loud noise, Amayah thought it sounded like a building being torn apart, was it collapsing or did someone destroy a piece of the building? Walking cautiously into the building she looked around; there didn’t seem to be anyone in the building where she was. Glancing over at some stairs she ascended them, hoping to get to the top of the building and find out where that weird creature went to.

Melting a massive hole in the rooms, he was careful to leave enough support so the roof wouldn't cave in on him. He had done this countless times. As the steel of the building conducted the heat, it got unbearably warm. Thankfully, The Firefly was fire and heatproof, meaning he felt no pain. A circular dome was all that remained as smoke billowed down every stair case and out every window, so thick and black it was almost unbearable.

She heard another large bang as she was halfway up the stairs; whatever this thing was… it was dangerous and powerful. Not knowing what she should do, she continued climbing the stairs out of sheer curiosity.

As the heat of the room forced the smoke down the hallways faster, it would no doubt reach Amayah soon. Sitting comfortable on a chair he carved from the stone and steel of the building, his mastery over fire allowing for him to melt and cut it with precise measurements, he was quite content. "What to do today..." He mused, his voice weezy and with a hint of smokers cough.

Turning her head towards the noise she noticed a dark cloud of black smoke coming her way. Still wanting to go up the stairs she fought her inner voices and decided to leave the building. Once outside, Amayah thought of a different approach. She examined the side of the building; it was just the right kind of material to sink her claws into. Smirking to herself, she lunged at the building; sinking her claws or her hands and feet into the siding. Climbing the wall with tremendous effort, she made her way to the top, it would surely take awhile… but by then the smoke inside would have cleared and she could then follow the steps of the avian.

As the smoke cleared, The Firefly grew restless. Someone was scratching up the wall of his home, he could hear them. Someone was always trying to get to him. Normally, it wasn't a problem. Occasionally, however, it was a Watcher member, and they were dangerous to him. Hell, if he accidentally toasted whoever this was and it wasn't a watcher member, he could just eat it. Holding his hands to the foor, he began slowly melting the building.

Amayah began to pant as she was halfway up the building; almost there she thought with a prideful smirk. As she extended her hand to reach the next indent in the siding to sink her claws into, she began to sweat slightly. Why was the building becoming warmer? She noticed bits of metal on the building were a fiery red… the building was being heated up. Removing her back claws from the siding she slid down the building; clawing the sides heavily. She all of a sudden was reminded of her doing this to a curtain as a kitten. Laughing to herself she waited until she hit ground.

Mere moments after she slid down the building, a great jet of fire eruped from every four meters in the same area she was at, spreading out at a distance nearly 10 meters long. The fire was ice blue, an indication that it was hot as all hell. "Where are you, Watcher? I know you're there!" The Firefly had leaped from the melting building, which was oozing into a puddle of steel. Flying in the air, he scanned the ground for whoever was nearby.

Pushing herself off of the building she heard a voice. Why was he calling her a Watcher? In fact, Amayah wasn’t even sure what a watcher was. Looking up in the sky she saw the avian again. What was going on? Not sure what to do, she just continued to gaze up at the sky wondering what he would do to her.

"Little scum.." He swore at her, before engulfing his hands in fire. Stretching them out towards Amayah, he sent twin tongues of white hot fire at her, the flames licking through the space between them. The air around them heated up to monstrous levels.

Running behind the building next to the skyscraper she was panting hard. What the hell was that thing doing to her, why was he so mad? She decided not to be such a wimp and yelled out ”I AM NOT TRYING TO HURT YOU. I AM NOT A WATCHER” she hoped this would calm him down and stop his attempts to kill her. Peeking around the building she wiped the sweat off of her forehead as she waited for him to respond.

Did she just say she wasn't a watcher? How could he trust her or not? "Alright... If you aren't a Watcher... let me touch your forehead." Floating down to the ground, all traces of fire and heat left his body. "Just so I can tell if you are lying or not." He explained, to show he wasn't going to hurt her.

Scrambling around the building she noticed he was coming closer, what was he going to do to her? Shaking violently; she walked forward. “Alright” she said nervously as she lifted up her bangs.

Smiling gently, his yellow eyes glowed warmy. Placing his hand on top of Amayah's forehead, he was monitering her body temperature. Taking into account the heat he had just produced plus how exhausted she must be, he was ready to tell the minute differenes between her truth and lying. "Are you a watcher?"

Her heart hammered in her chest, this guy was as creepy as hell… she wondered what he was doing. “To be honest dude, I don’t even know what that is” trying to sound as casual as possible and hoped he wouldn’t get angry that she wasn’t one. Still shaking violently, Amayah began to lose feeling in her legs; she had never been more nervous in her life.

The Firefly's eyes had been shut as she spoke. Opening them with a smile, he nodded and removed his hand from her forehead. "Alright.. so you aren't a Watcher. Tell me then, why were trying to get into that building?" He asked, wondering if she merely wanted to learn his ways.

For the first time in a long time; Amayah was almost left speechless by this creature. “I saw you in the sky and wondered what you were…so I followed you. I thought the way you use fire is really interesting and I wanted to try and get to know you, then you tried to kill me” she finished her slightly fast rant with a nervous smile.

Smiling, The Firefly nodded. "I am called a Firefly. I have the ability to convert the radioactivity inside of my body into Fire and then generate it outside of my flesh and control it. I can teach you my ways, if you wish. I see the spark in your eye necessary. I see the passion of one whom wishes to protect someone with this power. Be warned though ... Once you start a flame, it can range across the world unattended. It has the power to both give life and destroy it. Are you sure you want to do that?" He asked her, warning her of the immense danger using this power could bring.

“That sounds incredible… but are you sure someone like me could handle something like that?” she asked with slight concern. She didn’t want to end up setting fire to the only things in the world that wasn’t already on fire… that could end terribly. Looking up at him, she wasn’t sure what was about to happen.

Nodding, The Firefly's warm smile glowed brightly as he was once again lit up with an orange light. "Just come see me later on, and I'll begin teaching you." He told her, before turning and walking away, disappearing into the shadows of the city once more.
